New Library Titles about the Presidency and Elections

As Election Day nears, several new resources available in the Law Library may help you get even further into the civic spirit leading up to Nov. 6th.

  • America Votes! A Guide to Modern Election Law and Voting Rights (Benjamin E. Griffith, ed., 2012).

This guide explains the voting and electoral practices of the United States and includes chapters covering hot button topics like identification requirements, voter protection, and discussions of the lessons learned from the 2000 and 2004 elections.  Readers can also learn about the Voting Rights Act and its amendments, voting rights for minorities, and felon disenfranchisement.

  • Guide to the Presidency and the Executive Branch (Michael Nelson, ed., 2013).

This reference resource provides readers with an understanding of both those who have served as president and the institution of the United States presidency.  It includes information on the structure, powers, and operations of the office and also discusses the president’s relationship with Congress and the Supreme Court.

  • John Heilemann and Mark Halperin, Game Change: Obama and the Clintons, McCain and Palin, and the Race of a Lifetime (2010).

The 2008 election along with its many twists and turns was watched by everyone.  Game Change documents the 2008 election through interviews with people who lived through it giving readers a glimpse into the story behind the headlines.
