In the past few years, student loan debt has reached near crisis levels as student loan debts outpaced credit card and auto loan debts. This has not escaped the notice of current and former students or bankruptcy practitioners. In a recent podcast, American Bankruptcy Institute Scholar-in-Residence and NCCU School of Law’s own Professor Susan Hauser spoke with Jason Iuliano about student loan debts being discharged through bankruptcy proceedings. Iuliano recently completed an empirical study of student loan debt discharge cases. In this brief and informative podcast, Professor Hauser and Iuliano discuss conclusions from his study as well as why so few people attempt to discharge student loan debts when filing for bankruptcy.
