The Mecklenburg County Criminal Courts Building was named the “Judge Clifton E. Johnson Building” on November 16, 2012.  The Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners voted in August 2012 to name the building after Judge Johnson, ‘67, in honor of his life and service.  Judge Johnson made history as the first African-American District Court Judge of Mecklenburg County, and as North Carolina’s first African-American Chief District Court Judge.
